Inspire – High potential and gifted education

At Georges Hall Public School, Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is embedded in everyday practice. We recognise that many students demonstrate high potential, and we are committed to helping that potential grow into something powerful.

• Our teachers identify individual learning needs and use evidence-informed strategies to challenge and extend students. We offer a variety of learning pathways, including enrichment, extension, and acceleration programs.
• In our supportive classrooms, students feel a strong sense of belonging and are encouraged to take risks, be creative, and collaborate with others. Flexible grouping allows students to take on leadership roles, while strengths-based feedback, clear goals, and opportunities for self-assessment foster independence and growth.
• Our teachers also engage in ongoing professional learning to ensure we meet the diverse needs of all students, including those with high potential and gifted abilities.

At Georges Hall Public School, every student is recognised as an individual, so opportunities for growth are flexible and diverse.

• Students are encouraged to build on their strengths through debating and public speaking competitions and NSW Premier's Spelling Bee, as well as STEM opportunities such as Lego workshops and science fairs.
• Creativity is celebrated through performances at Wakakirri, our K–2 and 3–6 choirs, and a variety of interest clubs including dance, drama, and art.
• Leadership skills are fostered through our Year 6 Leadership Program, the Student Representative Council (SRC), and initiatives such as the Respect and Unity programs. Wellbeing is supported through the PAX Good Behaviour Game, Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) awards, and access to our on-site psychologists.
• Sport is also a vibrant part of school life, with PSSA competitions, coaching, training, and house carnivals, alongside differentiated PE for all students.

Our students participate in a wide range of statewide programs to extend and enrich student potential.

• Australian Maths Competion provides unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and extend students’ problem-solving skills.
• Computational and Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) competion gives students the opportunity to develop their problem-solving skills through algorithmic thinking.
• Maths Olympiad, an inter-school competition that has been specifically designed to stimulate and challenge high potential and high achieving students in Years 5 and 6.
• Bebras Computational Thinking is an exciting and engaging challenge that helps students develop problem-solving and logical thinking skills.
• Kangourou sans Frontières (KSF) Maths Competition gives students the chance to tackle challenging problems, build their mathematical thinking, and prepare for real-world problem-solving.
• The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) competition is an annual academic challenge for students, testing higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in subjects like English, Mathematics, and Science.
• Tournament of Minds, held every two years, is a team-based problem-solving competition that develops diverse skills such as creativity, enterprise, time management, and collaboration in a challenging and supportive environment.
